Viñales: "I feel ready to win"

This time Maverick Viñales is in the mix too. The Spaniard did not miss out on a spot on the first row, earning the third slot on the grid in his last attempt. Tomorrow he will definitely be one of the favourites for the win and it is too big a chance for the Suzuki camp to let get away.

A last lap that was anything but simple, with the weather complicating his plans.

“It was definitely not easy doing the last lap in the rain. Precisely for this reason, I never would have thought that I was on the front row, looking at the times. I think the team did a great job to keep me close to the top in these two days.”

On a few occasions the right confidence in the wet was missing.

“We have always struggled, but I am convinced that at Brno we took a step forward. Before the qualifiers today I did not have any grip, but then the situation changed. Obviously I am hoping for a Sunday without rain and with a dry track.”

Many consider you one of the main candidates for the win here at Silverstone.

“On paper I think I am the favourite for the win. I definitely feel fast on this track and ready to win if the possibility is there. I will do the most to take advantage of the chance in the race on Sunday.”

What will you need tomorrow?

“I will need to try and be smart, especially in looking after the tyre in the second part. I think that is a crucial aspect.”

The Suzuki seems to have improved in recent outings.

“I think so too. This bike is proving to be very competitive on fast tracks with various direction changes. Besides Silverstone, I’m thinking of Phillip Island. I am confident and we will see what happens on Sunday afternoon.”
