Marquez: The crash? a 'calculated' risk

The crash for Marquez in qualifying was not caused by impetuousness, nor was it an ill-attempted acrobatic number. This year, Marc studies all of his moves carefully and at Silverstone he did not make an exception.

I am a bit disappointed with my qualifiers, because in FP4 in the wet I did very well, but in agreement with the team, we decided to make a change to the bike - he explains - As soon as I went out on the track I realized that it was not the right move, but with 15 minutes available there was no time to go back to pit lane. First I took a lap without risking too much in order to put a time on the boards that would guarantee a decent position and then I pushed. I knew that I had gone into the corner too fast, but I tried to take the turn anyway.

He was not successful, but he already had the 5th place in his pocket. The fact that the Honda does well in the rain is also demonstrated by Crutchlow’s pole and Pedrosa’s 4th place.

When there are a lot of competitive riders on the same bike, it is not coincidence - he continues - Like I often say, our problem is acceleration, and in the wet the limit in that phase is determined by grip, not by anything else. Our rivals are unable to exploit their strong points and our frame does very well.

Tomorrow, however, a dry track is expected.

I was worried when I saw that the forecast called for rain in the afternoon. I thought I would need FP4 to improve. Instead, in the morning we were able to take a big step forward - he says - I am pleased with my pace. I think I will be battling, not only for the podium, but for the win too.

But he does not want to make predictions.

It is difficult to judge the rivals’ level - he points out - No one took more than 10 or 12 laps on the tyres and it is difficult to say how they will perform. There are also those who put on used tyres, whereas others were out on new ones, and with different compounds. For the moment it seems to me that the soft tyre slides more after a few laps but it seems to hold up.

Pleased with his day is Dani Pedrosa, who seems to have rediscovered his shine at Silverstone.

I’m happy, because it was difficult riding on super slippery asphalt - he recounts - The rear tyre did not come up to temperature but I was able to improve lap after lap anyway and fourth place is positive for the race.”

The doubts are about the weather.

I’ll need to start well and stay with the lead group to find a good pace - is the plan - I'll do my best to achieve a good result anyway.
