Rossi: 2nd at Misano is a real shame

There aren't many things you can't fight against in life, but one is Pedrosa when he's having a good day. Valentino Rossi knows this well as, up until 7 laps from the end, he thought he had the Misano win in his pocket. “When I saw Dani coming, I said to myself, does he have to ride like this today of all days? Can't he wait for the next GP, at Aragon, at his home track?” comments the Doctor.

So it's a disappointing second?
At another track I'd be happy with this kind of result, but at Misano it's a shame. I thought I'd be able to do it before Dani reached me, I tried to resist but he was faster. Pedrosa, with his stature, has some disadvantages but today he had a small advantage, he was having less trouble with the rear tyre than I was”.

You made a perfect start…
I quickly moved in front and pushed to the maximum. I had enough to be able to stay ahead but not to break away. It was hot and it was physically hard, but every time I saw my lead increase it helped me”.

Was it impossible to beat Pedrosa?
I knew that he could attack me at that point and passed me ‘Marquez-style’. Everyone says Dani isn't aggressive in battle but I remembered how strong he was at Aragon. In the end, he made a great pass”.

Did you expect him to be so fast?
I'd seen he was quick in practice and at Silverstone he made a good race, I was hoping that, starting from the third row, he wouldn't be able to catch me. He did well, but I'm really disappointed. I thought that beating Marquez and Lorenzo would be enough to win. I'm sorry. I didn't expect it, though in terms of the championship it's better that it was Dani who beat me”.

But we're at Misano…
It's a big party, the atmosphere was incredible and I got quite emotional during the sighting lap. But I can go home knowing that I gave everything I had”.

And you've made up 7 points to Marquez…
There are still another 43, which is a lot. I'm pleased with this part of the season even if I'm still missing a win. In addition, it's always great to finish ahead of wonderkid Marc.

You celebrated in a rather special way…
I drank from my boot, I wanted to try it ever since I saw Miller doing it. The taste wasn't bad (he laughs)”.

At least one of your 'students', Baldassarri, won…
I wanted to copy him, but wasn't able to. He was great”.
