SBK: Warokorn to sub for Sofuoglu in Thailand

With Kenan Sofuoglu still out of commission after being injured during the winter break, the Turkish rider's World Champion ZX6R caught the eye of more than one rider before the official announcement was made just now: it will be Thai rider Thitipong Warokorn astride the Kawasaki Ninja in the upcoming round, right on Thai soil, so for his home race.

Team manager Manuel Puccetti will therefore have the substitute who will ride alongside Briton Kyle Ride in the next championship race: “We received many requests, I think 100 - Manuel revealed - from all over the world: from Australia to the USA, from the United Kingdom to South Africa… everyone wanted to race with us in Thailand. We even spoke with a few Moto2 riders.”

Sofuoglu's conditions are still up in the air and he is still has a way to go for full fitness: “Kenan has undergone no less than 4 operations in one month - Puccetti continued - and we all hope that he will be at the first European round in Aragón. The choice of putting Warokorn on the grid was proposed by Kawasaki Thailand and we accepted the suggestion since we are official representatives of Kawasaki in 600 Supersport.”

You said that you have spoken with a few Moto2 riders. Can you mention any names?

I am not yet at liberty to mention the names. As I said, we are all hoping that Sofuoglu will be racing again soon, but if he is unable to make it, we have a good Moto2 rider ready to hop on the Ninja at Aragón and I can only say that he is not an Italian racer.”
