SBK, Rolfo amphibious at Aragón, first in SP2

The MV Agusta rider from Piedmont capitalized on his wet weather skills, beating out Cardelus and Epis. Only 13 out of 35 riders braved the rain

SBK: Rolfo amphibious at Aragón, first in SP2

The second free practice session in the Supersport 600 category was severely impacted by a heavy storm that arrived not too unexpectedly (a few drops had already fallen in the SBK session) and the rain dampened the spirits of more than a few riders who stayed in pit lane.

Of the few who put on rain tyres and left their garages, the fastest was Roberto Rolfo, feeling at ease astride his team Vamag MV Agusta 3-cylinder: 2’12”944 was the time set by the rider from Piedmont, winner of the opening race in Australia.

The second place time went to another MV, the one ridden by Spaniard Cardelus Garcia, about one second behind Rolfo. The third place time was set by Australian rider Epis, the first in a series of Ninja ZX6R machines: Hungarian rider Sebestyen was fourth, followed by Japanese Watanabe who was 2 seconds behind the leader.

In sixth place was another Italian winner, this time of the Thai round, Federico Caricasulo with his team Mirko Giansanti R6, another former Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing 125 and 250 rider.

Okubo, another Japanese rider, was seventh, with the Simon Buckmaster’s Team Landlord Honda CBR600; in eighth place was one of the few Estonian riders participating in a World championship, perhaps the only one - Soomer on his Honda CBR.

Finn rider Niki Tuuli finished ninth astride his team Mila Kallio Yamaha R6, Davide Pizzoli did the tenth best time and Malaysian Khairuddin was eleventh ahead of Briton Luke Stapleford with his 3-cylinder Triumph. Dutchman Van Sikkelerus closed out the list of riders who braved the driving rain looking for a fast lap.
