MotoGP, Dovizioso: Lorenzo a big deal, I'm focusing on myself

"In doing so, the results will come. Here in Argentina we can fight for the podium but need to be able to adapt quickly to any condition"

MotoGP: Dovizioso: Lorenzo a big deal, I'm focusing on myself

We'd already seen proof of it in Qatar, the 2017 Dovizioso is a mature, fast rider who is sure of himself. The arrival of a champion like Lorenzo could have had him trembling in fear, but instead Andrea simply continued along his path. To be clear, the atmosphere in the box is good and the Italian doesn't underestimate the Spaniard, but he's just not looking for comparisons, or any conflict.

So, after the Losail podium Dovi is in good spirits in Argentina and explains how he sees things with his team-mate.

I feel stronger in myself, not in comparison with Lorenzo - he says - I was aware of this before the season even began, Jorge's arrival was a big deal and I knew I needed to manage the situation effectively. So I have focused on myself, knowing that if I did that, the rest would come, and that's what's happened”.

Starting out on the right foot always has a positive effect and Dovi is no exception to the rule.

I am pumped up, determined and aware we can do well - he states - Then there are many unknowns, for everyone, because I don't think Qatar gave us a really clear picture. In addition, conditions are strange here and I doubt they will be any different to other years, when it was difficult to work due to tyre wear, then there's the weather with a chance of rain on Saturday. There are many situations, so it's hard to make any predictions”.

In a certain sense, it will be like Losail, where it was essential to adapt quickly to the changing conditions.

“I'm confident and in these cases we need to effectively adapt to the conditions we are given, as in Qatar”.

Predictions are difficult but not impossible.

The first race didn't tell us so much, but in terms of this GP we can definitely fight for the podium, we'll only know whether we can do more or less when we see the conditions and how we are able to work”, he concludes.
