It might be a little early to talk about a rebirth, but this second place for Chaz Davies is a liberation. The Welshman's season has been more than a little difficult so far, as he seeks the confidence that the Panigale V4 rarely offers him, but it appears to have finally arrived around the undulating Californian track. One that has often been a friend to Chaz, and today once again.
“We made a significant change to the bike - begins Chaz - one that I think will help me during the remaining races. Up until now, we were looking for a compromise that worked, but now we've made a drastic chance that is not about compromise and that really works: it's the frst time I can say that after many races".
The race wasn't easy for #7 though, also due to tyre consumption.
“On the grid I opted for the soft rear tyre, so over the first laps I was very fast but then I had to be very careful as the bike started to move around a lot. All this means we might struggle in race 2, but we'll try to use the information from this race to improve further”.
The Ducati rider can only be pleased with a result that repays both his and his team's efforts.
“I've definitely taken a step forward compared to the last races. I'm pleased to be back on the podium and to be able to dedicate it to my team, that has always worked hard trying to help me and find the right set-up”.
