MotoGP, Vinales: "If it rains, we'll have to be careful, but I'm not worried"

"We tried the wet track last year; we need to be careful about the closeness of the barriers. We need to talk to Michelin to avoid the mistakes with the tyres at Brno."

MotoGP: Vinales:

It was not a lucky weekend for Maverick Vinales last week and having a race already this weekend may be the best medicine to help him to forget. The Spaniard in fact comes off the back of a 14th place obtained in Brno, which he quickly tried to remove from his mind.

"This week I tried to switch off a bit - says Maverick - to try to get to the race in the best physical and mental condition: we have a lot of data to analyse and we need to be in the best conditions."

The new appointment in the championship will take place at the Red Bull Ring, a track that has not been particularly kind to Yamaha over the years, but what worries Vinales first and foremost is the tyres.

"The main aim is to regain the right confidence on the bike, trying to understand the tyres to avoid the mistakes made in Brno: in the Czech Republic my tyres lasted three laps, so I really think I made some wrong choices. We need to talk and collaborate with Michelin to make the best use of the information we have. Then obviously it will be necessary to work from FP1, to find a good set-up for the race ”.

Another hot topic at Yamaha in recent weeks has been the reliability of the engines, but on this matter, there is no new information.

“I don’t have any updates about the engines. In Brno we had no problems, so I think and believe I am in a good situation ”.

In conclusion, Vinales has his say on the (very high) possibility of having to race in Austria in the wet, which does not seem to worry him excessively.

"We tried the wet asphalt last year during the warm-up, but you need to be very careful given the closeness of the barriers. In any case, I think I'm ready to race even in those conditions, we'll just have to see what the situation will be ”.
