This coming weekend, at Donington Park, Markus Reiterberger will make his BSB British Superbike debut alongside the expert Peter Hickman in Team Global Robots BMW.
With both riders present this weekend at the final round of the Endurance World Championship on the Estoril track, the official announcement arrived a few minutes ago on the social channels of the team run by Darren Jones.
Over the course of his long career Reiterberger has always been a very competitive rider, able to take the title in the IDM Superbike championship in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
In 2019, after having triumphed the previous season in the European SuperStock 1000 Championship with alpha Racing - Van Zon - BMW (obtaining four wins and two third places), the German returned to World Superbike in the official BMW squadron together with Tom Sykes.
After a season of scarce satisfaction, which saw him finish 14th overall with a paltry 83 points, the 26-year-old then moved on to the ARRC (Asia Road Racing Championship).
Following the cancellation of the remaining events of the Asian championship calendar, "Reiti" has now found that he is free to make further commitments in parallel with the Endurance World Championship.
With the second S1000RR vacated by Alex Olsen due to a bad crash in the qualifying session at the Silverstone 'National' circuit, Team Global Robots BMW thought it might be a good idea to snap up Reiterberger.
It’s a bond that is further consolidated with the Munich manufacturer, which has been continuing since 2011.
“I am happy to get the chance to compete in the British Superbike Championship races,” said Reiterberger. “The level in BSB is really high, especially because the bikes have little electronic support, for example no traction and wheelie control, which will be new for me. Thanks to the incredible support of alpha Racing I will be able to attend the event with two experienced staff members, my new crew chief and my long time suspension expert and I will get the chance to showcase myself in another top-class championship. My expectations are quite high, even if I know that I shouldn't set them too high due to the lack of preparation time. We'll see how it turns out - I'll try to put on a good show and I'm really looking forward to the weekend at Donington Park.”
