Race Direction decided to penalize Fabio Quartararo with three seconds for having covered the last laps of the Barcelona Grand Prix with his suit open and without chest protection. The decision came after Ducati and Suzuki submitted a report requesting answers to what occurred in the race.
The official statement: “During the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, you were observed to be riding with your leather suit not correctly fastened and without the required chest protector. […] The FIM MotoGP Stewards imposed a three- second penalty to be applied to the race results of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya MotoGP race”.
With these additional three seconds of penalty (Yamaha’s French rider had already received just as many for cutting the first chicane), Quartararo falls back to 6th place in the rankings, behind Mir and Vinales, who each gain one position.
Logically, this also has an effect on the championship, because Fabio loses three points. So, while remaining at the top of the rankings, Zarco is now 14 points behind him, with Miller at 25, and Bagnaia at 27.
