MotoGP, Bagnaia: "Quartararo is doing a great job, beating him is difficult"

"There are many Ducatis on the track, but staying in front of them is complicated. I haven't won at Barcelona since the CEV, here it feels like riding flat track, there is very little grip"

MotoGP: Bagnaia:

Pecco Bagnaia arrived at Barcelona from a special victory, the one last week at Mugello. A perfect Sunday for an Italian rider riding a Ducati in his home GP, but it's already time to look forward, trying to keep up the momentum and without making other mistakes. To accompany him towards this weekend’s race, he still has the emotions of Mugello.

"Unfortunately I was only home a short period, so I didn't have much time to look at the race again: only twice - the Italian smiled - The first, the night I got back and the second in the morning at breakfast, I did a back-to-back!" .

Did you see anything you didn't like?

"No, I won and it was a perfect race, making up a few positions only made it more exciting. If I really had to change something, it would be the Le Mans race (laughs) ”.

Now Barcelona is waiting for you, what do you expect?

"In 10 years in the world championship I have never won on this track, the last time was when I was still racing in the Spanish championship. I have to change the trend, also because this is one of my favourite weekends, I like the circuit and the atmosphere. The important thing will be to work as we have done in the last GPs starting from FP1 ”.

What makes this circuit so complicated for you?

“It feels like riding flat track (laughs). The drop in tyres is very important, in fact the three riders who finished on the podium last year all had a hard time on the rear. You have to be smart to manage the tyres, and when there is little grip I have to change my usual setting. There will be a lot of work to do".

What went wrong last year?

“I had a good weekend, but then I struggled more in qualifying and in the race. This time, however, I believe that our potential is greater and I think the 2022 fairing will help me ”.

Are there still tracks that are favourable to one or another bike?

“Mugello was not supposed to be a circuit for Yamaha in theory, but Quartararo gave me three tenths in the third sector, maybe it was he who made the difference. I don't think there are any more tracks where a bike can make a big difference, even the Ducati has now improved its handling and is more balanced ”.

But there are many Ducatis on the track, team games could be fundamental for the championship.

"Quartararo is doing a great job, he knows his bike perfectly and takes full advantage of it, he is the only one. There are many Desmosedici, but to stay ahead of Fabio you have to do something more and it's not easy ”.

Today you were in the press conference together with Quartararo, Espargarò and Bastianini, are you four the contenders for the title?

“There are still a lot of races to run, but this is the situation right now”.
