MotoGP: A cosmetic operation: KTM away from the Tech3 team: GASGAS arrives

Next year the Tech 3 team managed by Hervé Poncharal, which has an agreement with KTM until 2026, could race under the GASGAS brand owned by Pierer Mobility AG, in addition to KTM and Husqvarna. For the record, for the eleventh consecutive time, the Group managed to achieve a record turnover of 2,041.7 million euros (+ 33.4%) in the year 2021.

The news was reported by Speedweek, always well informed about the Mattighofen manufacturer, which revolves around a rumour that has been circulating in the paddock for some time and that was put to rest, after the retirement of Suzuki, by the fact that Carmelo Ezpeleta was trying to convince BMW to enter MotoGP.

The aim of the Dorna boss was to return to 24 bikes on the starting grid, while with GASGAS it would only be a name replacement operation, as if the second Aprilia team that will race in 2023 competed under the Moto Guzzi or Gilera name, both brands owned by the Piaggio Group, like Aprilia.

However, currently GASGAS runs both in Moto2 and Moto3: in the intermediate class it is on the fairings of the Aspar team's Kalex with Jake Dixon and Albert Arenas, respectively 7th and 15th in the world championship; in the smallest size class, on the other hand, it supports Izan Guevara and Sergio Garcia, in the same Aspar team, respectively second and first in the world championship after the crash in the Silverstone GP.
