Moto3: Guevara: “Battling it out with opponents like Acosta has made me a great rider”

Since the beginning of 2022, Izan Guevara has never made it a mystery that his goal for the season was the title, to add to his six wins, three second and two third places. The track record of a true champion, as he reached the stars during his second year in the World Championship, before changing category in 2023, but   continuing to wear the colors of the Aspar GAS team.

But Izan Guevara’s talent was already well known since 2019 when, with six wins, he conquered the title during his debut in the European Talent Cup. During the year that followed, he competed in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and in the CEV Moto3, where the current Moto3 World Champion won another rookie crown, putting Xavier Artigas and Pedro Acosta behind him, with a victory, a second place, and then a string of four consecutive wins, three of which in Aragon, starting off 22nd.

Just two more races, and the 18-year-old rider will only have the Moto2 on his mind, where he’ll meet up with his old rival, Pedro Acosta. “Pedro and I climbed up the ladder. We’ve always fought, and I think that’s what made us good  riders,” the rider from Majorca said in an interview with  Marca. “We met all the emerging riders on the track, and that’s what got us to this point, where we have to be great riders. Next year, I’ll meet up with Pedro again on the track, but he’ll certainly be a step ahead of me.

With two European and one World title already, does Izan already see a bright future ahead of him?I think so. We’ve already won many titles,”  the Spanish rider stated. “If we continue to work this way, I think we’ll have a good future, but have must continue in this directionn, without decreasing our performance. We have to always evolve.

It’ll be a new challenge for me next year, a new category, the Moto2. We’ll see how this develops. After all, it’s a rookie year, but there’s always that rivalry on the track that pushes you to get good results,” the rookie said, admitting that he thinks his style is similar to that of another great Spanish rider. “As a rider, I see myself more in Jorge Lorenzo than in Marc Márquez, even if Marc is my idol,”  he explained. I’m not much of a late braker. It’s true that I brake hard sometimes, but I don’t in other places. Usually, I’m more of a rider who lets the bike glide, who rides better in corners. From this viewpoint, I’m more like Lorenzo than Marc.
