The British Superbike is definitely the national Superbike championship of reference in terms of generational comparisons on the track. There’s 39-year-old Josh Brookes – 2015-20 Series Champion, about to take up the challenge with FHO Racing BMW – who’s still going strong. But then, at the opposite end, there’s a “certain” Storm Stacey who, even though he’s not yet 20, will be starting his fourth consecutive season in the BSB with the GR Motosport Kawasaki team for his final breakthrough.
A very young debut
At the beginning of 2020, the young British rider was promoted by the GR Motosport team directly from the Superstock 600. Because he was only 16 years old, Storm Stacey was originally supposed to make his British Superbike debut with special permission granted by MSVR and by MCRCB, before the late start of the season caused by the Covid-19 emergency ruined his plans.
A constant three-year climb
From the second half of 2020 onward, Storm Stacey demonstrated his potential, scoring at least several places in the points zone: 18th place with 38 points just this past season, in which his 9th place in Race 1 at Knockhill definitely stood out. In 2023, Stacey will attempt to take a definitive leap forward in his career, riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR.
Stacey’s comment
“I’m very happy to have signed again with GR Motosport because some changes have been planned for the new season, and I’m excited about it,” he admitted. “I think the top ten could be a goal within our reach, even if the dream is still the top five.”
