With the outgoing champion and ex-teammate Bradley Ray having moved on to World Superbike, this year Kyle Ryde has taken over the role of team principal in LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha in British Superbike to all intents and purposes. A more unique than rare career opportunity for the former Supersport World Championship rider, ready to fight for the title in 2023. This was made clear during the opening race of the 2023 season which took place this afternoon on the National layout (short) at Silverstone, in which he took home the fourth victory of his career by getting the better of Tommy Bridewell (Ducati).
Race 1 under the sign of Kyle Ryde
The new BSB season got underway with the same prerogatives of a formula that works, with 22 exciting and spectacular laps in the renamed BikeSocial Sprint (by regulation shorter than the two Sunday heats). At the same circuit where in 2020 he scored a dominant double win with Buildbase Suzuki, Kyle Ryde did the same on the Yamaha R1 in the livery of OMG Racing, emerging over the distance. Without making the slightest mistake and holding off the attacks of poleman Tommy Bridewell, immediately on top form in his official debut with BeerMonster PBM Ducati's Panigale V4 R.

The success he had been aiming for since Donington National in 2022 allowed Ryde to make up for the small crash he suffered in the middle of Q2 of this morning's official qualifying, thus strengthening his candidacy as Bradley Ray's successor in the roll of honour. Behind Tommy Bridewell, Race 1 made Josh Brookes smile again, third at the finish line and back on the podium for the first time since Oulton Park 2021. After a painful two-year period in PBM Ducati, the two-times Champion is finally back as competitive and incisive as usual at the first outing in a race weekend on the BMW M 1000 RR of FHO Racing, as evidenced by the third time in qualifying.

On the very last lap Josh Brookes got the better of Jason O'Halloran (fourth on McAMS Yamaha), who appeared in to be in crisis with the management of his Pirelli tires at the end after leading the race for long stretches, before being attacked – and passed - by winner Ryde on lap 18. With Glenn Irwin fifth on the second BeerMonster PBM Ducati, 2018 Champion Leon Haslam was the author of a furious comeback on the ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team M 1000 RR, finishing sixth from tenth place on the grid. Tomorrow the remaining two races, scheduled at 14:30 and 17:30 Italian time, of 30 laps each.
