SBK: SSP: double fracture for Oncu in Assen, Montella’s “mea culpa”

Can Oncu’s and Yari Montella’s Sunday race lasted only a few meters, after they touched at the start of  Race 2,  which ended the race for both riders, while they were in 3rd and 4th place. The Turkish rider had the worst of it, as he was involuntarily knocked out by the Team Barni rider who had lost control of his Panigale shortly before Turn 1 (See video of accident).

In fact, from the tests Oncu underwent, they diagnosed a fracture of the ulna and radius of his left arm, which won’t allow him to get back on the track in Catalonia.

I started strong and was heading towards the first corner. But as soon as I started to lean in, I was hit by another rider, and I fell. It was a bad accident, at high speed, and I quickly realized that I was injured. Now I have to follow the doctors’ instructions, hoping to get back on the track as soon as possible,” the Puccetti rider stated.

There isn’t much to add about today. First of all, I want to apologize to the Puccetti Racing team and to Can Oncu. It was my mistake, and I take responsibility for it,” Montella wrote in social media channels, commenting on what happened. “I also apologize to the Barni Racing team. Mea culpa.”
