MotoGP, Bastianini: "The sprint race was less dramatic than I expected"

Enea took his first point of the year at Mugello: "the problem isn't just my shoulder, but my physical condition. Something wasn't working on the bike too"

MotoGP: Bastianini:

Enea Bastianini scored his first point this season thanks to a 9th place in the Mugello sprint. More than the result, it was important for the Ducati rider to pick up the pace and understand how his body would react. All in all, the glass can be considered half full even if not everything is perfect yet and the Beast himself also complicated things.

“I crashed in qualifying, I added something to the package - he joked - Let's say that the day didn't start very well because this morning I didn't feel as good as yesterday, the track conditions had changed. Then I could have done without the crash”.

The result was a 12th place on the grid.

“The race went quite well, I managed to stay close to the others for a few laps, then the front of the Arrabbiata 1 closed in on me and I lost contact, unfortunately - the balance - I had to make a lot of effort, I tried to do my best and in the end I got one little point”.

Bastianini didn't collapse physically, but obviously he had limits.

“There never was a moment when I couldn't manage it anymore, but it was never a perfect race - he explained - I've never been able to do what I wanted, this morning I got up with more pain: it's normal, I expected it to be a difficult weekend and it is."

Meanwhile, the sprint is done and dusted.

“I lived it well, I tried to figure out how to deal with it, I observed the others. At one point I didn't understand what was happening, because it was raining but if I looked up I saw the sun - he smiled - It was less dramatic than I expected, the first lap is obviously the most critical, but it went a little better than the one in Portimao”.

You still have to face the most difficult challenge: the 23 laps of Sunday's race.

“It depends on how I wake up tomorrow morning, I'll definitely take a painkiller for the race, I'll need it, while today I didn't want to use any to understand how I felt. As I said yesterday, it's also a question of physical training, it's not about shoulder conditionshe underlined.

Then you still have to sort out the bike.

“For sure something can be done, today I wasn't 100% OK, there was something that didn't work. I was having a hard time repeating what I was doing yesterday in the morning or in the afternoon, I have to understand why. Throughout the weekend I've never had too much rear grip and I'm too fast going into corners, I can't stop the bike and I have to work to solve these problems. The warm-up has been reduced to 10 minutes, so I'll have to make the right change” concluded Enea.
