Dall'Igna: "Ducati is the Red Bull of MotoGP, we must be proud"

"The strategic mistake of the Japanese was to only listen to the champions, but their talent covers the problems. Team orders? If the Ducati riders fight for the title among themselves, they'll be free to do so"

MotoGP: Dall'Igna:

Gigi Dall'Igna couldn't be more satisfied with the exceptional result achieved at Sachsenring, with 5 Ducatis ahead of the rest in Sunday's race. In the past, when he oversaw Aprilia, the Ducati Corse General Manager had dominated before, but now things are different: “there was less competition, there was only Honda. Now there are many rivals, so we need to feel satisfied with what we're doing," he declared in an interview with La Stampa.

The technical superiority of Ducati in MotoGP recalls that of Red Bull in Formula 1: "right now we're actually playing that role" he said without putting too fine a point on it.

The Veneto engineer knows that nothing is taken for granted in what his men are doing.

“I told them they must be proud of what we're doing, it's not normal to get results like that. It happens very rarely, especially in a category as competitive as MotoGP - he continued - For obtaining such extraordinary results, the credit goes to everyone: the riders, the people who work back in the factory, the teams, the Ducati staff on the track. They are all working at their best, like champions."

Instead, their opponents are struggling, Honda and Yamaha are unable to do anything about Ducati on the track.

“Their strategic mistake was to follow just one rider, to base the development of their bikes on the results and feelings of the protagonist of each brand, therefore Fabio Quartararo for Yamaha and Marc Marquez for Honda – was Dall'Igna’s analysis - Often what the top rider, the champion tells you, isn't exactly the truth because his talent covers the problems the bike suffers from. Paradoxically, to develop a project well, you must listen to all the voices, all the riders".

That’s exactly what Gigi has done and now he has 4 of them ahead of everyone else in the championship: Bagnaia, Martin, Bezzecchi and Zarco. As a result, there are already rumours of team orders that could favour one rider or another, but the Ducati general manager wanted to be clear.

“I love all my riders and I would like them all to have the satisfaction they deserve, but it's clear that at the end of the year only one will be champion. The important thing is that it's a correct and fair battle, that's what interests me the most - he underlined - If one of our riders is fighting for the championship against an opponent from another brand, we'll try to do everything possible to help him. If, on the other hand, we reach the end of the year in a situation like the current one, each of the Ducati riders will have the freedom to play their own cards".
