MotoGP, Carlos Ezpeleta: "Dorna is working to help Honda and Yamaha"

"We think that the concessions system needs to be updated". Regarding a third KTM team for Marquez and Acosta: "next year there are not expected to be more than 22 bikes"

MotoGP: Carlos Ezpeleta:

The crisis of the Japanese manufacturers in MotoGP is plain for all to see, especially that of Honda, but also Yamaha, both of which are suffering against the Italian manufacturers, Ducati in primis. An unprecedented situation that is worrying for the top levels of the world championship, which have already had to suffer the withdrawal of Suzuki.

In recent weeks there has been a lot of talk of revising the concessions system. Currently, in the regulations, only a manufacturer who does not get on the podium for an entire season can have advantages and therefore neither Honda (which won in Austin with Rins) nor Yamaha (3rd with Quartararo in the same race) could benefit from them.

However, things could change, and this was declared by Carlos Ezpeleta, MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer, speaking on Catalunya Radio’s programme 'Tot Costa'.

“We are working to be able to help not only Honda but also Yamaha, so that they can get back to being competitive more quickly - explained the Spanish manager - Honda and Yamaha have been very attentive to concessions in the past, which were fundamental for Ducati to be competitive, for Suzuki to be competitive quickly, for KTM and Aprilia to enter the world championship and be competitive. Other manufacturers will understand this. Dorna's official position is that the concessions system needs to be updated".

Ezpeleta was very clear on this point, because Dorna doesn't want to lose two manufacturers and their riders, who are now in the shadows - Quartararo, but above all Marquez, at the centre of a lot of speculation in the last period. One rumour is that KTM intends to set up a third team with Marc and Acosta.

“Next year there are not expected to be more than 22 bikes - Carlos cleared the field - For us, the ideal number is 20 bikes. From what I understand, we'd like to have Pedro in MotoGP, but there are talks with his team and his manufacturer."

As for Marc, Ezpeleta seems convinced that he will stay with Honda: “I think he has another year of contract. Even if I knew something, I wouldn't say it. Your reasoning seems correct to me today" he replied to the radio show hosts who speculated that Marquez will remain where he is again next year.
