An Italian has returned to the British Superbike: Niccolò Canepa will take part in the races at Donington Park and Brands Hatch with the McAMS Yamaha team

Right after celebrating the second FIM EWC Endurance World Title of his career, Niccolò Canepa will have with two other commitments for this 2023 season finale. The first is the last piece in the puzzle regarding teh development process of the new Yamaha R1 GYTR Pro in the National Trophy 1000, scheduled for October 7th to 8th  at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. The second is his participation in the final two rounds of the British Superbike with  McAMS Yamaha: a historic team that will closing up shop at the end of the year.

The 35-year-old rider from Genoa will be joining Jason O’Halloran at Donington Park (September 30th-October 1st) and Brands Hatch (October 14th-15th) on Yamaha’s second YZF-R1 in the BSB. Yamaha took the throne of the 2021 series along with Tarran Mackenzie.A rather inviting and fascinating challenge in a high-profile championship.

An Italian returns to the BSB

Canepa will, therefore, be the first Italian rider to race in the British Superbike since Claudio Corti in 2019 with the WD-40 GR MotoSport Kawasaki team, in which Davide Giugliano, Vittorio Iannuzzo, Matteo Baiocco, Luca Scassa and Alex Polita also recently participated: “I’m excited to make my debut in the British Superbike,” the Yamaha Superbike World Championship tester and riders coach admitted. “During my career, I’ve had the opportunity to compete in many championships, but never in the BSB. It's special for me to be able to do it with McAMS Yamaha, the best team in this paddock. I know that the championship is difficult and at a very high level, but I’ll try to get good results for the whole team.
