MotoGP, Crutchlow: “With Marquez in Ducati the other riders might as well leave”

“He’s the most talented rider I’ve ever raced with. It would make everything boring. Better if he stays with Honda. The fight for the title? I hope Bezzecchi wins, but Martin will.”

MotoGP: Crutchlow: “With Marquez in Ducati the other riders might as well leave”

Cal Crutchlow is in Japan for a wild card on the Yamaha and, before putting on a show on the track, he’s already done so on the mics. The British rider has a strong sense of humor and he doesn’t mince words. An explosive combination when you have to express yourself on the most varied topics. Logically, even in Motegi, Cal used his communication skills and, this time, Marquez was involved.

The question that has been going around the paddock for months is whether or not Marc will join the Gresini team on a Ducati. So they asked Crutchlow to put himself in his shoes.

What would I do if I were Marc? I don’t know. I have no idea,” he answered. “I always said that if Marc were to go to Ducati, the other riders might as well leave. That’s why I don’t want him to go. I want him to improve the Honda. In the end, I don’t really care. I just want to see some nice races on TV. I think Marquez is the most talented rider I’ve even had the privilege of racing with. We were in Honda at the same time, and I know what he used to do. I understood him, but I wasn’t able to do the same.

So, for the sake of the show, Cal would prefer that the Spanish rider stay where he is now.

He’s incredibly talented. I don’t think he’s lost it. It’s the bike that doesn’t allow him to do what he was used to doing. When it’ll allows him, he’ll be ahead in the championship.” he stated. “If he were to go to Ducati, maybe it would be boring, or he could change things in Honda and go back to being competitive. I think this could be the best one for everyone.

The Yamaha test rider also spoke out about the fight for the title, with a dose of irony again.

I'd bet on Bezzecchi, because I bet a nice sum on him at the beginning of the year and, if he wins the title, it would be like a prize for the podium for me!” he said jokingly, before becoming serious again. “I hope it happens, but I think Martin will succeed. I like Marco because I like his style, Pecco because he’s very clean both in riding and as a rider, Jorge because he always tries, he’s a fighter.”
