MotoGP, Merlini about Gresini: “If Marquez knocks, there’s a Ducati for him here”

In the mosaic that’s coming together with Marc riding a Gresini Ducati, even the manager who was Fausto’s right-hand man weighed in about opening the doors of the team to the Spanish rider

MotoGP: Merlini about Gresini: “If Marquez knocks, there’s a Ducati for him here”

Marc Marquez’s future won’t be announced at Motegi. The rider clarified this even before the weekend in Japan began with the conference on Thursday. Yet there are a succession of steps that will make this option more concrete and, right now, Honda’s lawyers and the rider himself will probably find the correct way to end a partnership that theoretically would have expired at the end of 2024.

Our Spanish colleagues at  Mela Chercoles di AS met with Carlo Merlini and Davide Tardozzi in the Motegi paddock and also spoke about this topic. Denying the obvious would've been useless, so it’s now clear how wide open the doors are for Marc with Gresini and Ducati.

Gresini has a Ducati, and if Marquez knocks on their door, it’s his. Who wouldn’t want to have a rider like him?” Merlini commented. Merlini was Fausto Gresini’s partner and friend throughout Fausto’s adventures in the MotoGP and in the other categories in which his team has been involved. The opportunity to have a heavyweight like Marc would please anyone. He would represent an unimaginable driving force for a satellite team and, obviously, everything that Gresini can do to have Marquez on the team will be done.

Along with Merlini, Davide Tardozzi also commented on the subject. In other circumstances, he had already confirmed Ducati’s change in opinion on the matter.

Ducati has done well with their bike and their riders, because they have first, second, and third place overall and, if they can also have Marc, well, we know that he’s really good, and we’ll see next year what he’ll be able to do if he joins.
