MotoGP, Quartararo: “I didn’t know the tires were different from 2022”

Besides Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, and Honda, there’s also a Yamaha in the top ten positions of the Practice Session at the Mandalika Street International Circuit: Fabio Quartararo’s. The French rider scored a 10th time, the last valid position to access the decisive Q2 of the official qualifying session tomorrow night. A performance that would have been better if Race Management hadn’t annulled his best lap, which he scored under the yellow flag after Joan Mir’s incident.

“A pretty good Friday. I completed several interesting laps, especially in the afternoon in terms of time attack, despite getting some yellow flags,” the 2021 World Champion stated. “We hope to further progress tomorrow.”

Not having to pass through the Q1, the Monster Energy Yamaha rider will be able to race from a significant position on the starting line-up of the Indonesian GP. Something that is more important now than ever to be able to decide on an attack strategy, given the technical deficiencies of the M1.

And just as it’ll be important to dispel any concerns regarding the tires: “Until yesterday, I didn’t know that they were different than last year’s. I was a bit disappointed because the soft is generally better for us, even if today’s sensations seemed good.”

Quartararo explained in detail: “The ones we have here are the same for us. The problem is that the hard goes faster, while the soft goes smoother than the others. The soft we brought here doesn’t really correspond to the soft.”
