Franco Morbidelli arrived in Australia with the aim of leaving his disappointing performance in Indonesia behind him. Franco does, in fact, want revenge on a track that will put the qualities of the M1 to the test.
The Roman rider, who lives in Tavullia, is aware of this.
“This track is special,” he began. “Unfortunately, the long corners don’t seem to enhance the potential of the Yamaha, while the tracks with low grip favor our bike. The fact is, Phillip Island is awesome. My favorite turn is the one dedicated to Stoner, or the three. Then I remember the duel in 2017 with Oliveira’s and Binder’s KTMs. I was fighting for the Championship. and Brad and I touched at one. In the end, we had great races at Phillip Island.”
The starting point is the Indonesian GP.
“In Mandalika, we had a gap from Quartararo that we didn’t deserve, since the speed was good. In qualifying, I was two tenths and, on the fast lap, I was one tenth. Unfortunately, however, there were several aspects that fooled us, such as Friday. So we’ll try to do a better job.”
Franco then talks about Yamaha, remembering the switch from the satellite to the independent bike.
“The biggest difference is when I got on the official bike, because that factory had a different concept compared to the Petronas one. In fact, the 2019 had features that perhaps adapted better. In the end, however, there was no radical and revolutionary change.
His last words were about the Martin-Bagnaia championship duel.
“It’s a nice head to head. Right now, the two contenders are trying to get ahead of each other, and there’s nothing certain. We’ll see what happens.”
