Rain and 60-80 km/h gusts of wind are expected for Sunday, so they decided to switch the two races for safety reasons. The race will be held tomorrow, 6:10 am CET

MotoGP: BREAKING NEWS - Phillip Island, Long Race on Saturday and Sprint  Race on Sunday

The weather is keeping everyone in check on Phillip Island. Although the forecast calls for good weather until Saturday, rain and gusts of wind between 60 and 80 km/h are expect for Sunday. So, in order to protect the riders on the track, they decided to have the long race tomorrow and move the sprint race to Saturday.

The official announcement arrived in the afternoon in Australia, and a press conference will be held in the next few hours to explain the decision in detail. The safety of the riders is obviously important, but the decision also wants to save the long race, sacrificing the sprint. In fact, if the weather conditions are severe, the short race will be cancelled. No details have been provided yet regarding the Moto2 and Moto3.

The official statement: “Due to the bad weather expected for Sunday, October 22nd, the Australian Grand Prix program has been updated. This decision was reached proactively, in order to ensure the best and safest possible conditions for all the riders and fans attending the Phillip Island Grand Prix this weekend. The MotoGP Grand Prix race will now take place on Saturday October 21st, at 3:10 pm local time (6:10 in Italy). The Sprint Race will start at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 22nd, weather permitting.
