MotoGP, Martin: “Here in Thailand I'm not as strong as in the last two races”

“The problem is the tyre and the management in Sunday's race, because we are at the limit. I can’t explain the crash, I certainly won't brake at the same point tomorrow."

MotoGP: Martin: “Here in Thailand I'm not as strong as in the last two races”

The protagonist of Buriram Friday was Jorge Martin. After the benchmark set in the morning, the Spaniard gave an encore in the afternoon, closing the first day of free practice on the Thai track in style. It was certainly an encouraging start for the Pramac rider, despite a crash at the end of the session.

His analysis for this Friday started precisely from the mistake at the end.

“This afternoon's crash was a really strange one and I didn't even understand why – he began – obviously there will be an explanation and we will do all the checks afterwards. I certainly won't brake at that point tomorrow (smiles). Maybe I lifted too much before, maybe there was a slight dip, but as I said I won't lift again at that point."

The episode doesn't worry him.

“I'm not worried about what happened, since I've already done several and it's part of the game. We'll try to start again tomorrow with a good qualifying and then the Sprint where we have a pretty clear idea. For Sunday it will be important and complicated to manage the tyre."

Crash aside, Martin is now looking ahead to Saturday.

“Today we worked on the pace and, as already said, the tyre here is very at its limit. In fact, I don't feel as strong as in the last two races, but I know I have a margin and can fight for the top positions while remaining in the top five."

The fact is that Jorge is ready for the challenge that awaits him on the Chang track.

“This morning the track was dirty, then in the afternoon it was very hot. To tell the truth, I thought we would have been faster. Having said that, I am very excited for the sprint race while we must evaluate for Sunday's race. After what happened in Australia it won't be easy with tyre management. We will have to make the right choice and manage the situation."
