Alex Marquez’s Thai GP lasted just eleven laps due to a fall, while he was feeling good on the bike, as he had confirmed once he returned to the garage, intact in body, but a little less in spirit.
“I’m fine, but it was a painful fall, because I had a good start and good first laps. I felt comfortable on the bike and even the choice of tires was proving to be the right one, also because they were suitable for the electronics,” he said, not hiding his disappointment.
“Maybe I closed the trajectory too much in that corner,” he admitted. “My mind was already trying to overtake Binder at twelve, so I pushed more than I should have, and I went inside too much. Then it was slippery, and I ended up falling. I apologize to the team because my Ducati was doing well.”
Speaking about the strategy that was established for the race, the Spanish rider explained: “Starting seventh, I had decided to mount the mediums, so as to give it my all in the first ten rounds, and then manage them. I have to say that the tires weren’t worn out when I fell, and they would probably have held, up until to the checkered flag. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take advantage of the opportunity.”
Besides the zero he received, the 27-year-old prefers to think about the positive aspects from this weekend, since he ended up with three fractured ribs in India. “Considering where I’m coming from, I have to be happy. I suffered in Australia, and I didn’t even know if I was going to withstand the long race. In the end, I made it, and the situation improved here even more. Now I’ll take advantage of the week at home to recover a little more.”
Finally, he spoke about Manuel Poggiali’s arrival as coach of the riders on the official Borgo Panigale team. “Not much will change for us, but his arrival is positive. It’s a smart move. If this then leads to a greater exchange of information with the factory team, it’s in everyone’s interest.”
