MotoGP, Taramasso, Michelin: 'Martin's tyre was freshly made, never heated before'

"We are still analysing the data but that tyre had not been used or warmed up on any other occasion before being used for the race. Proving the consistency of Michelin tyre performance, the race lap record was broken on the last lap of the Grand Prix."

MotoGP: Taramasso, Michelin: 'Martin's tyre was freshly made, never heated before'

Jorge Martin's scathing comment on the performance of his rear tyre - 'the title has been stolen from me, a championship decided by the tyres is bad' - did not, of course, leave Piero Taramasso, Michelin's manager on the race track, indifferent.

As is customary at the Clermont Ferrand factory, when some alleged irregularity occurs the tyre is sent back to the factory and analysed. That was the case this time too.

"Regarding Jorge Martin's statement after the race: we're still analysing the data - said Taramasso -  What we can say at this stage is that his tyre came straight here after being manufactured, that it hadn't been used or warmed up on any other occasion before being used for the race.

Afterwards, the manager emphasised the performance of the French tyres.

"Records were broken this weekend, and the race lap record was broken on the last lap of the Grand Prix, demonstrating the consistent performance of Michelin tyres. (from Bastianini), te majority of riders chose the Hard compound for both the front and rear wheel, on a track with new asphalt and over 22 laps".
