Jorge Martin, the loser in the title race for 2023, will have an extraordinary “ally” next season: Marc Marquez. Or so he thinks.
The eight-time champion will, in fact, be riding the GP23 (yesterday he rode the one that used to be Johann Zarco’s) that, so far, had been used by the Pramac rider who, on the contrary, will use the new GP24. The prototype they tested yesterday was promoted by both Bagnaia and Bastianini.
Before the tests, Marc and Jorge exchanged helmets. Everyone knows they have a good relationship, which was also demonstrated by the fact that they didn’t accuse each other after their accident in the race on Sunday, when the rider from San Sebastian de Los Reyes crashed into the world champion who, instead, justified him.
Num. 89 appreciated the exchange and praised Num. 93.
“I was very excited to have one of Marc’s helmets. I think he’s one of the greatest in history. It was really nice to exchange helmets with him,” he confessed.
Martinator obviously watched Marquez’s test with great interest and, like Bastianini, he wanted to take a look at his telemetry, since Ducati riders have free access to the data of their brand mates.
“I got a good look at it, but it didn’t impress anyone because I knew how fast he could be. I was very surprised by the first lap he did. I couldn’t wait to see his data and, from those, I saw that he has a style similar to mine. My team analyzed them very carefully and told me we look like the same rider. We use the brakes in a very similar way, and the way we do the trajectoreies. I’ve already learned a few things, and I hope to continue learning from him. Itìs a challenge, it’s motivation. It’ll be very important to be able to race against one of the best riders in history.”
Martin didn’t have an easy day yesterday. He fell twice. The first time at Turn 10, the second at Turn 6. Accidents caused, according to Martinator, by the choice of a tire that’s too hard for the weather conditions.
