MotoGP, Dani Pedrosa wins against Spanish Revenue Agency: compensated with 3 million Euros

Dani Pedrosa has won his battle against the Spanish Revenue Agency. The Spanish national court has accepted, with a judgment issued on November 16th, the appeal filed by the 38-year-old Catalan rider, referring to the request by the revenue agency to pay over 1.7 million Euros of personal income taxes for 2005 and 2006. 

According to the court’s findings, the tax inspectors were unable to prove that the current KTM tester was living in Spain during the relevant period. The Revenue Agency will now have to refund Pedrosa the amount of 2,418,373.20 Euros plus the corresponding interest (amounting to about 600,000 Euros), in addition to bearing the costs of the legal proceedings.

As Pedrosa’s lawyer, David Gil, explained to the Spanish newspaper, La Vanguardia, unless there is an (unlikely) appeal to the Supreme Court, the ruling will put a definitive end to all the Revenue Agency proceedings against the former MotoGP rider. In fact, it is not the first time that Dani has faced problems with the tax authorities. In 2015, when he was riding for the Repsol Honda team, he had been added to a list of delinquent debtors, when he was accused of having a debt of over 7.8 million Euros involving Spanish public finances.
