MotoGP, Domenicali: "We have won a lot, but it's just a starting point"

The CEO of Ducati takes nothing for granted with a view to 2024: "Doing better than this year will be very tough". And on the recipe that led to the rebirth of the team he reveals: "It is also thanks to a new approach". And to close, some great news: "We will debut in off-road".

MotoGP: Domenicali:

On the occasion of the Ducati party held at the Unipol Arena in Bologna Claudio Domenicali took stock of the recently concluded season, not hiding his satisfaction with what was achieved, but equally looking to the future with a good dose of caution.

"It's starting to become complicated to strengthen your position - said the CEO - 2023 was truly great and extraordinary, but winning is always complicated. We knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park to repeat what we did. Certainly being the first manufacturer in history to triumph both in SBK , both in MotoGP, repeating the following year and adding the highlight of Supersport is quite an achievement. However, in life you have to try to constantly raise the bar. It's hard to think of being able to do better in 2024, but we've already made a few thoughts for the long term."

And part of the credit for such success comes from being natives of a glorious land for two and four wheels such as Emilia Romagna. "It is no coincidence that it is called Motor Valley - highlighted the manager -  It has given birth to exceptional riders and has two circuits, without forgetting that within a 100 km radius there are companies such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Dallara, Pagani and indeed Ducati ".

The link with universities, a hotbed of new talent from a technical point of view, is also very strong and significant. "Together with the Universities of Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Parma, we created MUNER, the Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna. A project capable of combining passion, racing and science, as well as the future of our kids - explained the 58-year-old - In this context, engineers who are completing the three-year degree can follow specific courses for the automotive sector, such as Advanced Motorcycle, rather than Racing Car Design. As far as we are concerned, we are sponsoring a team from the University of Bologna. For example, we supported them in the creation of an electric motorbike and for two years they won the world student title".

After a very critical period, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer now finally seems to have broken the deadlock, better and more than expected. "We won't tell you the magic recipe - joked the CEO - However, I can say that the entry of Dall'Igna has helped us to have a more engineering approach. Now we pay more attention to physics, mathematics and simulations while not abandoning the humanistic component. All these aspects are held together by passion. Knowing how to transfer it, while reiterating the importance of reasoning leads to obtaining results."

Having finished talking about the present, Domenicali then announced the brand's commitment to the off-road world. "Even if it will be a long-term program and it won't be able to see us immediately as competitive as in the other championships, the approach is the right one and we're happy to put ourselves to the test - he declared with conviction - So, in Madonna di Campiglio, together with the new MotoGP and SBK, we will officially present our motocross bike with the team following its development. I think it will be fun for all off-road enthusiasts to see what we are up to in terms of engine and chassis. There will be many interesting things to discover at that time."
