MotoGP, Augusto Fernandez: "The sooner Acosta is faster, the better it will be for everyone"

"In Moto2 seeing his data allowed me to improve, we pushed each other. My goal for 2024 is to be the best KTM rider, if there were some podiums and a victory it would be perfect"

MotoGP: Augusto Fernandez:

2024 will not be the first year in which Augusto Fernandez and Pedro Acosta will share the same garage, as the two Spaniards were teammates in the Ajo team in Moto2 in 2022, when Augusto won the title (something Pedro also did last season). Under the roof of the Tech3 team, in MotoGP, it will be a completely different story, even if Fernandez is happy to find Acosta again.

“A strong rider arrives - he said in an interview with Speedweek - I can't wait to share the garage with him and I believe he will adapt quickly to the bike, as he did in Moto2. I've said it often in the past: when he was competitive, he helped me a lot. Seeing his data where he was faster than me made me better. We pushed each other and raised the bar. Of course, your teammate is always the first one you want to beat, but I think it will be good for the brand, for the team and for me if he becomes strong as soon as possible."

Augusto therefore accepts the challenge with Pedro, making his debut in the premier class and indicated by many as the ‘one’. Fernandez will have a year of experience on the RC16 branded GasGas, but he is also aware that he has to take another step forward compared to the season just ended, in which his best placing was a 4th place at Le Mans.

“I don't want to set a specific goal because in MotoGP you never know what will happen, but I want to fight to be the first KTM – is his dream for the new year - This is the main goal and, of course, getting on the podium and getting the my first victory in MotoGP. If it happened, it would be perfect."
