Even if he came in 8th at the end of the first day of tests on the Portimão circuit, Alvaro Bautista still found a reason to smile. Last week, in Jerez, he was in a lot of pain as a result of when he fell last November on the same circuit, but it was all different in Portugal.
“Overall, it was a positive day. Certainly better than the last day of the previous session when I wasn't feeling really good,” he admitted. “During this break, I worked hard at home, so I started out better today.”
The feeling is that of a continuous improvement but, it's still a long road for the two-time world champion. “I can't say I'm at my best, but at least I've made some progress and have been able to focus more on riding rather than my physical issues.”
The work they carried out this Monday mainly involved the structure, and comparisons were also made regarding the distribution. “Like in Jerez, I compared the two bikes and confirmed the feelings I previously had. That one configuration is better than the other. When I’m back in shape, I’ll have an even clearer idea. For now, I haven’t made major changes, since it wouldn’t make sense. But, in general, the feeling is better," he explained.
So we won’t be seeing great revolutions on the track tomorrow either. “Before any intervention, I want to figure out the limit of what we have available. If, on Tuesday, I end up like today, it’ll be positive. If I feel better, then it’ll be even more so. What’s certain is that I don’t want to have too many expectations for the first GP of the season,” he concluded.
