MotoGP, Martin backtracks: "The new fairing is better: the bike is more stable"

“Unfortunately yesterday it didn't convince me much while today we made some changes and I realised the potential. I predict that it won't just be me and Bagnaia, Marquez will be close"

MotoGP: Martin backtracks:

Pecco Bagnaia proved to be the fastest of all in the search for the top time on the last day of testing at Sepang. Jorge Martin then came in behind him, only 172 thousandths away from the Italian. An encouraging time for the Spaniard, who also changed some ideas regarding the new fairing.

“I didn't expect to do such a good lap – he said – I did it with the new fairing which I didn't like yesterday since it made changes to the set-up. Unfortunately I made a small mistake in turn 3, but in the end I'm satisfied."

So in the end Martin promoted the new fairing.

“Yesterday I didn't feel very good with it and it was strange considering Pecco and Enea's comments. Today, however, I felt competitive and I realised that it is better and allows me to be competitive. I would say that now we have the package for 2024. What changes? It's more stable, offers more downforce, but we have to get used to it. The bike is slightly slower when changing direction and we therefore need to make a change in style."

The fact is that Martin is well aware of his own qualities.

“I think I'm strong and have the right experience at this moment in my career, and I can also be more precise in my comments. I think we have a nice base. The race pace? On the second lap I pushed more than I should and the tyre gave way. So there were some problems, but the pace was fast and I'm happy."

In 2024 the Spaniard is looking for revenge and a lot of expectations surround him.

“I'm only focused on myself and my qualities. I feel ready even if giving an opinion on this test is complicated, because the riders did a different job from each other. It's certainly not just me and Pecco. Everything I expected finally happened. There are many riders ready for the fight. Marquez? I expected it, he will be very close to victory in Qatar."
