SBK, Bulega: “If Race 2 had been longer, I would’ve been on the podium”

“At the end of the race, I was going really fast with the worn tires, and I was going to catch up with the riders in front, but I didn’t get a chance to. I have to work on the start.”

SBK: Bulega: “If Race 2 had been longer, I would’ve been on the podium”

He wasn’t able to get back on the podium after his surprising victory on Saturday in his first Superbike race, but Nicolò Bulega can still be satisfied with how his first round in the premier class went in Australia. In fact, the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team rider managed to end his last day of racing with two 5th places, despite having lost numerous positions at the start of Race 2.

It was too bad, since we had to keep starting over,” he admitted. “Unfortunately, the starts didn’t go very well for me, since releasing the clutch on this bike is totally different than the V2, and I still don’t understand it. I have to train a bit on the starts, but I’m happy because, in the end, I was very fast with the worn tires.”

Ending up 14th after the red flag caused by Jonathan Rea’s fall, the reigning Supersport champion recuperated positions, until he reached the Top 5. But he’s convinced that he could've done better with a few more laps.

If the race had been longer, I think I would’ve at least gotten on the podium, because I was really fast in the last laps, and I was going to catch up with the riders in front. I managed to reach them before the end of the race. It was a very positive first weekend in the Superbike, since I got a pole, a victory, two fifth places, and two fastest laps,” Nicolò concluded, as he left Australia with a 2nd place in the championship standings.
