Honda’s first season without Marc Marquez will begin in Qatar. After 11 years together, their paths parted, and HRC started a revolution, in order to be able to climb back up a very steep slope after several difficult seasons. To do this, they redesigned the RC213V and relied on Mir and Marini. Joan is in his second year with Honda, while Luca is making his debut with the most successful team in the MotoGP.
Both are called to perform a task that isn’t simple, because the road is a long one and, to follow it to the end, they’ll have to work hard and be patient. The Losail GP will be the first test they’ll be facing.
“It’s time to get back to racing, and now I can do it as a member of the Repsol Honda Team,” Luca said. “It's another exciting milestone in the journey I’ve taken since the end of last year. Every time we work together as a team, we can find something and make more progress. This first weekend will give us the opportunity to fine-tune some test details and better understand how to work together during a race weekend. We have work to do, and I’m looking forward to starting as an official Honda rider.”
Mir is also ready to start: “Another season has finally arrived,” the rider from Majorca said. “He’s always excited to start the year and to return to racing, because there’s nothing better than racing with a MotoGP bike. We had some time between the test and this weekend to continue training and put everything in place to start the year. I’m satisfied with how everything is going, and I’m confident that we can continue to improve during the GP in Qatar. It’ll be a weekend of building and capitalizing on important moments. Our goal is to start stronger than last season, in order to start the year in a positive way.”
