Franco Morbidelli is finally back on track. After the bad accident he was the victim of at the end of February in Portimao, the Pramac rider again found the Ducati he hadn't seen since the Valencia tests.
Friday was useful for clocking up the mileage without looking at the stopwatch. On the other hand, the priority is to remove some rust and take one step at a time to regain the right level of competitiveness.
“After a month without a bike I didn't know what to expect – he commented – the sensations I encountered were however positive. Obviously the other riders have more experience and more laps with this bike, but this is all part of the learning process with the Ducati."
Franco then explained the work he did.
“In the wet session I tried to do more laps while maintaining a slow pace without having to chase the time. I just tried to see how the GP24 would behave, because at the moment I just need to lap."
His mind then turned to Saturday.
“Tomorrow we will return to the track to continue the weekend. We want to work to finish the weekend well, trying to improve and taking steps forward to be faster."
He concluded with a thought about his health condition.
“After this weekend I think we will have a general picture of the situation. Later, when I am home, we will evaluate how to increase the pace to try to regain form. At the moment, however, I don't know when I will be in top form on the bike. Having said that, I am happy with this first day. I had no problems with my head, everything was ok. From a physical point of view, this MotoGP is demanding, but I was happy to be back on the bike."
