MotoGP, The rain postpones the 'pre-qualifying' session: the riders in Q2 will be decided tomorrow

MotoGP: The rain postpones the 'pre-qualifying' session: the riders in Q2 will be decided tomorrow

The FP2 session of the Qatar GP will be simple free practice, so it will not count for direct access to Q2. The change was imposed by the downpour that hit the Losail circuit as they were finishing the second Moto3 practice session. The rain has stopped falling, but the asphalt is wet and will certainly not dry in the short time left until the start of the premier class session.

In the absence of precipitation, the reflections caused by the artificial lights are not a problem, but it would be problematic (and also dangerous considering that no one has experience in the wet at Losail) to decide on direct access to Q2 in a session like this. The Race Direction therefore asked the riders for their opinion and the majority of them explained that it would be better to consider FP2 as a free practice session and decide the riders in Q2 tomorrow morning, during FP3.

This is therefore the final decision and tomorrow the riders will have to compete in 'pre-qualifying', qualifying and Sprint. It was also decided that FP3 will last 15 minutes more: 45 instead of the usual 30.
