MotoGP, Martin: "I still don't ride the GP24 at 100% and I was too calm"

"I did it to avoid wearing out the tyres too much, but when I could have attacked it was too late. I was leader of the championship again for just 24 hours? I would like to be in Valencia"

MotoGP: Martin:

Also in Qatar Jorge Martin was king for just one night. As happened to him last year in Indonesia, the Spaniard took the championship lead in the Sprint and lost it in the long race. “This time I think I resisted for more than 24 hours, because we raced later - joked the Pramac rider - I would like to be in the lead on Sunday in Valencia, but it's too early to think about certain things”. However, a 3rd place isn't too tight for him.

“I can't complain about this weekend: I set the track record, the pole position, I won the Sprint and I got on the podium today” he underlined.

You didn’t even get bored: you had Binder to catch and Marquez pressing you...

“They were two good battles, but with 2 laps to go I managed to break away from Marc and get close to Brad. I even thought about attacking him on the last lap, but it would have been a bit much. Regardless, this is my best start to the championship since I raced in MotoGP and I wasn't able to ride at 100% because I still have some problems with the new bike."

Can you explain better?

“Let's say I can't take advantage of my characteristics to be fast, but I'm competitive in other points. I can't be quick when entering corners, that's where I lose compared to the other Ducati riders, it's the same for Pecco too."

Couldn't you have done more?

“I made a mistake on the first lap, because I didn't want to wear out the tyre so as not to have vibrations, which are caused by the increase in temperature. I tried to stay calm and at the end of the race it worked, but by then it was too late to attack. If Bagnaia hadn't overtaken me at the beginning, it could have gone differently, but that's the way it went."
