Francesco Bagnaia is going to seek redemption this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Ready to turn over a new leaf after his accident with Marc Marquez, which ended the Grand Prix in Portugal for both, the two-time world champion will try to recuperate important points on the track in Texas. A track where he had already proved to be competitive last year, when he won in the Sprint Race, before falling in the long race while leading the race.
"Austin is a track I like. Last year, I was very competitive and felt great. I made a mistake in the race and fell, but I think that, by working well, we can get be competitive again,” Pecco commented during the usual press conference on Thursday. “It’s a different track compared to Portimão, but we’ll see what we can do, and if we can improve the feeling we had in Portugal, which led me to have problems in the race."
The rider from Piedmont is focused on himself and his work and doesn’t want to start thinking now about who, among Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, and Marc Marquez, will be joining him on the official Ducati team in 2025.
"Who would I like to have as a teammate? I’m going my own way, I don't care," he admitted, "It’ll be the others who’ll decide. In any case, I’d say the one who deserves the bike the most."
In light of what Liberty Media has done for the growth of the Formula 1 in the United States, Bagnaia gave his opinion on what the American company could do for the development of the MotoGP.
"It’s very difficult to say what could be improved, because the MotoGP is already a very good show, but it needs to become more popular," he noted. "A big difference with the F1 lies in the fact that cars race there, and the car manufacturers are bigger than the motorcycle manufacturers. However, I think Liberty Media has some very good ideas to improve our situation, and I’m sure we’ll grow, because they know what to do, and they’ve taken F1 to the highest level we’ve ever seen. I think it’ll be a great opportunity for the the MotoGP."
Finding himself in Texas for the third round of the season, the 27-year-old then added a remark about Kevin Schwantz, one of the great idols of MotoGP fans.
"I didn't have the opportunity to see him race live but, from what I saw, he was very explosive and managed to do great things, like his famous overtake at Hockenheim on Wayne Rainey," Pecco recalled. "These aren’t things for everyone, and he didn't have a quiet career because of the many injuries he’s had, but he was certainly one of the most spectacular riders you've ever seen."
