MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "There aren't many excuses for going slow with the GP23"

"The bike has a very good foundation to work on, and it shows. Today, I tried some of the upgrades Ducati brought, and I'm excited about the sensations I got."

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

Fabio Di Giannantonio looked down upon everyone at the end of Monday's tests. His Ducati was ahead of the group, preceding Maverick Viñales, whi was the first of the pursuers. So the Pertamina rider is satisfied with the work carried out, especially with the updates received by Ducati.

Diggia is confident for the continuation of the season and, at the same time, for what has been done from the beginning of the Championship to date.

"I think today was an important day," he said. "We did a great job today with the team and Ducati, which gave us some updates to try. I focused on my riding style, especially the last part in braking, since the GP23 tends to push a lot on the front. What can I say. We're strong, the team is awesome, and I was able to be confident with this GP23 right from the first test."

Speaking of the tests, Diggia explains a small detail.
"You have a lot of time and, consequently, a lot of leeway in the tests. When you're on a race weekend, on the other hand, the time available is short, and the moment the weak points emerge, we have a hard time getting it right."

Fabio then referred to the work carried out.
"The goal was to understand the sensations and the characteristics of the new components, without looking for a time. We did a very good job, and I'm happy, especially with how we started the first part of the Championship. We had a good weekend here in Jerez and, if it hadn't been for the grip in the first laps, I would certainly have done better."

He also talked about how much a rider has an affect on the bike.
"It might even be true that the bike makes the difference, but when you then need to progress, it's the rider who has to put his own into it. Yesterday, Marquez and Pecco had a very good foundation, but then Pecco won because he was able to make a difference."

Finally, he compared the GP23 with the GP22.
"My bike from last year was a somewhat special GP22, while the current GP23 I have isn't the one from Valencia. If it were, it would  be easier in a number of ways. The fact remains that the GP23 is a very good foundation to work on, since it was very competitive at the beginning of the year. So, there aren't many excuses for going slow. In fact, we have a very good package. We know we're an independent team. We have fewer resources in terms of numbers than the factory riders, but ours is a fantastic group."
