MotoGP, "Sorry we were wrong": 'only' 181,289 spectators and not 300,000 in Jerez

While not an all-time record, the 181,289 attendance makes the Jerez GP the best attended in nearly a decade. The next MotoGP event will be in Le Mans, which holds the record for the event with the best attendance thanks to 278,805 at the 2023 French GP

MotoGP:

"Sorry, we were wrong."

With these words, MotoGP has clarified an erroneous announcement about the attendance at the Jerez weekend.

It was initially announced that the Jerez GP had welcomed nearly 300,000 fans, an all-time record, but it has now been corrected that only 181,289 fans attended over the three days.

Indeed, more than a few noses had been turned up at the announcement among the Andalusian event's regulars because, thanks to a super-improved road system compared to the early days when a long line formed from the city to the circuit, it seemed that there were many spectators, but certainly not 300,000.

"There was a miscalculation in the attendance numbers and, in our eagerness to celebrate the atmosphere of the event, we published incorrect figures just ahead of the MotoGP race."

Nonetheless, while not an absolute record the 181,289 attendance makes the Jerez Grand Prix the best-attended in almost a decade, continuing the positive public trend the sport currently enjoys.

The next MotoGP event will be in Le Mans, which now holds the record for the best-attended event in MotoGP history thanks to the 278,805 people who attended the 2023 French Grand Prix.

Dan Rossomondo, MotoGP commercial manager, added, "I'm sorry that we made a hash of it. Especially sorry because it was a special few days."
