Michele Pirro will race at the upcoming Barcelona round, this time with the Ducati of team Avintia. The test rider has been called upon to substitute for injured Loris Baz. The Italian has already competed in this year's GPs at Argentina, Austin and Jerez on the GP15, at Mugello he was a wildcard entry with the official GP16 and now he'll be riding the GP14.
“First I want to wish Loris a speedy recovery, I hope he's back for Assen - said team manager Augustin Escobar - Then I want to thank Ducati for having allowed us to replace Baz with Pirro, we couldn't have found a better rider, he's very fast and knows all the Ducatis very well".
Frenchman Baz has undergone surgery on his right foot in Switzerland, after suffering an accident during the first lap of the Mugello GP. The doctors have inserted three titanium plates, 2 nails and 15 screws.
His expected recovery time is rather long, between 4 and 6 weeks, casting doubt over whether he'll be able to return for Assen.
“It's not just one broken bone, but the whole foot, ligaments included - explained Baz - I'm pleased with the great work done by Doctor Mahler and his team but miracles don't exist. I want to be back for Assen, now I'll rest up for a week and then I'll start physiotherapy".
