Navarro undergoes surgery, will miss the Assen GP

Jorge Navarro will miss the Dutch Grand Prix, taking place at Assen next week. The doctors, having operated on his fractured left tibia and fibula, have ruled out his participation in the upcoming race despite the surgery having been completed successfully.

The rider for team Estrella Galicia went into theatre at 8pm last night and doctor Ignacio Ginebreda Martí, a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology, has applied a screw to hold the tibia. “We chose this over a plate because, in this way, the rider can start to put weight on his foot earlier and therefore speed up his recovery. The patient will return home in 48 hours and we think he can start his recovery”.

Navarro, who sustained the injury last Saturday while training at the KBS karting centre in Valencia, is currently second in the Moto3 championship and his forced break will favour Brad Binder who holds a 44-point lead over the Spaniard.
