SBK: Surgery successful on Petrucci’s jaw, Spinelli in Assen

Danilo Petrucci’s health conditions were updated a few minutes ago. The rider from Terni underwent surgery for his jaw, and the outcome was  perfectly successful. Instead, early next week, he’ll be having collarbone surgery.

Because of this, Barni announced that Spinelli will be racing for Petrux on the Ducati V4 in Assen:

"After the frightening motocross bike accident, which took place last Thursday at the Cingoli (MC) circuit, Danilo Petrucci is forcing the stages for his return. The surgery performed  to reduce the double jaw  fracture, with the insertion of several plates, was perfectly successful. The rider from Terni will remain at the Le Torrette di Ancona Hospital until Monday, since he must also undergo surgery for his right collarbone, which he fractured in the same fall. This second operation should make his recovery faster. Petrux's goal is to be able to race, not only in the Misano round (June 14th-16th), but already in the tests two weeks earlier. Therefore, Danilo will not be in Assen. In his place, the Barni Spark Racing Team has chosen Nicholas Spinelli, who has already worked with the Bergamo team in 2022, winning the Italian title in the Supersport class. Nicholas will, therefore, be making his debut in the Superbike World Championship."

Danilo Petrucci's thoughts: "I’m really disheartened about this injury. I was really fit. I felt I could get good results, and that's why I was training even harder. I had never had to skip a race due to an accident with the motocross bike. Instead, I won’t be in Assen. With the plates they inserted, I couldn't even put on my helmet. By mutual agreement with the doctors, we decided to also operate my collarbone. I’d like to be at the Misano tests in May."

Nicholas Spinelli said: "I’m very sorry for Danilo's accident, and I hope he recovers soon, but I’m really happy about this call. Racing with the big names in the Superbike is a dream come true. I’ll do my best to do well and enjoy this experience. A big thank you to Marco Barnabò and to all the team who still believe in me after the season we did together."
