Moto3, Fractured vertebra for Bastianini, Sepang GP uncertain

Enea also broke a rib after being struck by Navarro: a decision on whether to race in Malaysia will be made in the coming days

Fractured vertebra for Bastianini, Sepang GP uncertain

Enea Bastianini does not know if he will be able to race in the Malaysia GP next Sunday. The team Gresini rider was an innocent participant in an accident during the Phillip Island race triggered by John McPhee. The rider from Rimini, after getting up following his fall, was struck by Jorge Navarro’s bike.

At the time, Enea did not seem to have suffered injuries, but a CT scan revealed a fracture of the T9 vertebra, located at chest-height. A decision on whether or not to participate in the Malaysia Grand Prix will be taken in the coming days, when further tests will be performed to assess his physical condition.

“In the first laps I had managed to make up a lot of positions and the sensations in the saddle were good; I felt like I had the pace I needed to stay with the leaders - Bastianini recounts - But then in the sixth lap McPhee lost the front and crashed in front of Migno and me. We could not avoid him and, while I was on the ground, Navarro caught up and hit me. I took a blow to the back and the tests found a fractured vertebra, so now all I can do is rest and wait for further tests in the coming days to see whether or not I will be able to race in Malaysia.
