First place, with a decent lead over his main rivals, the Qatar test couldn't have got off to a better start for Dovizioso and the Ducati. It's well known that the Desmosedici has a particularly empathy with the Losail track, but today it exceeded expectations.
“I'm really pleased because the sensations have been good right from the start - says Dovi - This is important and helps us to work in preparation for the race, I only have to focus on some fine details. We know that the Ducati is very fast here but this year it seems to be even more so. Even I am a little surprised”.
So you're feeling relaxed?
“Sensations are positive, but until I follow my rivals and make some direct comparisons with them I cannot be sure. There are still two days in which to understand the margin that our rivals still have”.
You've started out on the right foot though.
“The time came easily, but being consistent over race distance is another thing and we need to improve in that area”.
what's changed with respect to Australia?
“At Phillip Island we didn't do as badly as people said, and there 3 riders went particularly fast, the others didn't really stand out. Here it all seems to be coming more easily, we're all faster”.

"I can do certain things in a more relaxed way having this speed. All the bike, with this power and without winglets, are moving a lot but you get used to it. I can't say exactly where we are faster, because the bike and tyres have changed since last year. The race will tell us what's better and what's worse”.
And you don't have the new fairing yet.
“Without the winglets I can play more with the bike and have the same sensations as I did in Malaysia. We were worried about this regulation change but it's proved to be an advantage."
