MotoGP: Marquez: “The crash? Strange, I wasn't even at the limit”

Marc Marquez leaves Argentina in a way no-one would have imagined. The zero weighs heavily on him, because this crash wipes out what was a very strong start for the Spaniard. He now has 37 points to make up to Vinales. It's now essential that wins in two weeks' time at Austin.

What exactly happened?

“I made a big mistake. I wasn't even pushing to the limit to be honest. It was a strange crash, seeing as I was upright with the bike, only leaning about 25 degrees.. Unfortunately the front closed and I found myself on the ground. I'm really sorry, because I felt competitive right from the start, as we'd made a change in warm-up that meant I was more confident in terms of pace.”

This DNF is particularly significant.

“It's a pity, because it's hard to make up for a crash like this at the start of the season. I needed to score points today. I'll learn from this mistake for the next races”.

How do you explain it?

“On Friday I crashed in the same section but in a different way, pushing more than necessary. Perhaps I was more on the inside or outside of the trajectory today. it doesn't really matter, the ending was the same, what counts is the zero I'm taking home. I'm angry of course, but will try to catch up ”.

For Honda it was a black Sunday, because Dani Pedrosa also crashed out. The Spaniard fell in the same place as Marquez.

“I made a good start but then lost time through the early stages with Petrucci and Zarco. I started to push hard after passing them, as my aim was to try and fight for the podium, but unfortunately I crashed at turn two".

You fell in the same place as Marc.

There are a lot of bumps on the track, which make for a difficult situation, it's as if you suddenly lose grip. unfortunately when you push hard on the accelerator the limit is always very close. We need more stability with the bike”.

Overall how do you rate your performance this weekend?

“Naturally I'm disappointed about the crash, but I'm pleased with the fact that I felt strong while chasing the leading group. I'll hold on to this motivation for the race at Austin”.
