MotoGP: Marquez: "Better to crash in practice than in the race"

Marc Marquez dreamed of a return to winning ways in front of his home crowd, but there was nothing he could do about Andrea Dovizioso today. It was therefore better to avoid risks and bring home a solid second place finish, which has awarded him precious championship points. It wasn't exactly plain sailing for him this weekend, with various crashes. The last on the podium itself.

“Unfortunately I fell several times, I was almost considering going home at one point (he jokes). The team was by my side though, reminding me that I'm Marc Marquez and giving me the necessary support. So I stopped thinking about what had happened”.

In the race, Marc wasn't conditioned. Hard to forget his pass on Lorenzo.

“It wasn't easy to sleep last night –he reveals – if I hadn't crashed yesterday or this morning it might have happened in the race. I had only one goal, or rather to be aggressive, constant and fast. Barcelona is my home race and I couldn't hold back, because I really wanted to win and wouldn't have been myself if I hadn't tried”.

Everyone expected a head to head at the end with Dovi, but you struggled to keep pace with him.

Before the race, I thought I could stay ahead of Dani – said #93 - I thought he was the favourite. Then i saw Dovizioso's Ducati overtake him, so I tried to follow. I tried for three laps but there was nothing doing. If I had risked it, I'd probably not have finished the race”.

Marc didn't manage to win at Barcelona, but his brother Alex did.

“Tpday he was very strong and competitive  – he commented – it's an important win because he, like me, has made up points ”.

At Montmelò everything pointed at poleman Dani Pedrosa. The Spaniard dreamed of reaching the highest step of the podium, but things came to a head nine laps from the end.

Before the race, I decided to change the suspension – he revealed - I thought it would allow me to have better tyre life. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned, as I felt much faster on Saturday”.

Dani has clear ideas about what changed between Saturday and Sunday.

I had different sensations with the tyres in the race, different from the morning – he analysed - I tried to save the tyres, but I didn't need to. Dovizioso was right there with me and on the straight he wasn't even opening the throttle. That's when I realised winning was impossible”.

A win that was hard to predict.

“I didn't expect it, as yesterday he didn't seem that fast. I thought I'd be battling with Marc, instead Andrea and the Ducati proved to be strong and constant”.

Pedrosa still sees the glass half full though, and he's right.

“I'm pleased anyway, because I came here after a crash at Mugello and I wanted to score points for the championship, both we andYamaha have suffered a lot”.

Now for the tests.

“It's important to focus on the tyres, because this was an issue for everyone, without immediately turning our attention to Assen”.
