MotoGP, Vinales: "Thanks to Marquez, I figured out how to improve the Yamaha"

"I felt good, but I had problems with the soft front tire after a few laps. I'm happy for Quartararo's victory."

MotoGP: Vinales:

"I'm glad Fabio won, it was a good double win," Maverick Vinales is sincere when he praises his future teammate, even if he's the rider who stole the victory from him in Jerez. Yamaha's Spanish rider put in place the strategy he had announced yesterday: use his head and set his pace. Marquez messed up his plans but, after his mistake, he saw the track open in front of him again. However, not everything went according to plan.

I had chosen to use the soft tire on the front,"  the only one along with Valentino, "and, in the beginning, it was fine. However, around the 6th lap, I started having problems. The steering closed a couple of times, I went long at the last corner. In the end, I'm glad I managed to keep Dovizioso and Miller behind."

Maybe it was the choice of that tire that jeopardized his race.

"It's easy to say now," he reflected. "Surely, next weekend I'll try to work hard, but I'm satisfied with this 2nd place. Like I said, I had some warnings, so I went into 'safe mode', I didn't take any risks. Then I attacked Miller and managed to go fast again. On one hand, it's a shame, because I felt really good on the bike, but now I know where we can improve."

That's why he has to thank Marquez.

"After Marc passed me, I was behind him, and I figured out lots of things," Vinales continued. "Now I know where to improve for the next race. I clearly saw which areas we have to work on."

Maverick also wanted to wish his injured rival a speedy recovery.

"I hope he'll be back on the bike soon," he said. "He was the favorite today, he recovered many positions very quickly, but the track conditions were very different in the race."
